Genocide Day: Letter for int’l recognition this month
Bangladesh will forward an application to the United Nations by this month seeking recognition of March 25 as Genocide Day, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq said today.
“The foreign minister told the cabinet last Monday that the letter is ready. It will be forwarded by this month,” Huq said in a briefing to disclose the programme schedule for Genocide Day.
Bangladesh parliament and cabinet division unanimously echoed a decision to observe March 25 as Genocide Day – the day when Pakistan forces launched attack on unarmed Bangalees in 1971.
In light of the occasion, Bangladesh government has drawn an elaborate programme schedule to observe the day – for the first time – in due respect.
On the day, a photography exhibition will be held at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan to remind of the Pakistan atrocities of March 25, 1971. Also, a discussion programme will be held.
Alongside, cultural and discussion programmes will be held at district and upazila levels elsewhere in the country in observance of the day – to be organised by the liberation war affairs ministry.
