RU student returns lost money to owner
The girl could have used the money as her own if she didn’t return back the sum to the owner.
Instead, Sumi Ara Khatun, a master’s student of Mathematics department in Rajshahi University, set up a great example of honesty as she returned a sum of Tk 1 lakh back to the owner today.
In presence of the teachers and students of her department, the girl returned the money to Ashraful Alam Setu, owner of ‘Usha Fashion’ at RDA market in Rajshahi city, reports our RU correspondent.
Earlier yesterday, Sumi went to ‘Usha Fashion’ at Saheb Bazar to buy some cloths and she requested the shopkeeper to keep some of her shopping bags there, as she was feeling tired.
After a while, when Sumi asked, the shopkeeper returned back the bags to her along with a bag with the sum ‘mistakenly’.
“When I returned home, I found Tk 1 lakh inside a bag,” Sumi said adding that the incident made her surprised and she could not understand from where the money came.
“I made a call to the number printed on backside of the shopping bag and asked them if they have lost anything or not?” she said.
But till then, they did not notice about the incident, she added.
After about an hour, the shop owner called me saying that they have lost Tk 1 lakh from their shop and requested me to return the money, Sumi said.
“Then I asked them to come to my department to receive the money”, she added.
After getting back the money, Ashraful Alam, owner of the clothing shop, said he was really happy to get the money back.
“We have tried to give her Tk 10,000 as reward, but she refused to take it,” Ashraful said, adding that he was grateful to the girl for her honesty.
“That was someone’s hard-earned money. It’s my duty to return it to the owner. I have learnt from my family to be honest, and that’s what I have done,” Sumi said.
