The High Court today questioned the legality of granting bail to Chandpur’s Haimchar upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwary in a case filed for walking over a “human bridge” formed by school students on January 30.

A picture of Nur Hossain walking over a “human bridge” formed by students of Nilkamal School went viral on social media, drawing outrage and criticism, in the first week of February.

Abdul Kadir Gazi, a student's guardian, lodged the case against five people, including Nur, also general secretary of Haimchar upazila unit Awami League, under the children act.

The HC issued a rule asking the judge of Shishu Adalot (child court) of Chandpur to show cause in two weeks of granting bail Nur Hossain in this case.

In the rule, the court also asked the judge under which authority the bail was granted and the government to explain why the order of bail to Nur Hossain should not be scrapped.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain came up with the rule after hearing a revision petition filed by Abdul Kadir Gazi challenging the Chandpur’s Shishu Adalot order that granted bail to Nur Hossain.
