Lucky Akhand's Greatest Hits

Lucky Akhand was objectively one of the most talented individuals to come out of the Bangladeshi music arena. The hits that he produced were timeless, and there can never be a conversation regarding our pop music which excludes his brilliant contributions. Lucky Akhand's journey as a musician officially began when he was signed as a music composer of HMV Pakistan, at the age of only 14 years. He went on to join the 'Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra' and fought the cultural war for our country. His first solo album came out in 1984 and it changed his fortunes as an artist. The album was self-titled and featured hits like “Agey Jodi Jantam”, “Mamonia”, “Ei Neel Monihar” and “Amay Dekona”. In the years that followed, he went on to make a plethora of hit songs, most notably “Abar Elo Je Shondha” for his brother Happy Akhand, who unfortunately passed away prematurely. The song “Abar Elo Je Shondha” resonates as one of the most soulful and prominent Bengali pop songs to have ever been produced. It was indeed a cornerstone of the era. Lucky Akhand was known by the industry as a perfectionist, who was innately talented and known to incorporate his Western influences with Eastern tunes to give birth to his own brand of music. This was apparent in his following albums, which included “Bitrishna Jibone Amar”, “Ananda Chokh”, “Amay Dekona” and “Dekha Hobe Bondhu”. All these albums came between 1998 and 1999, after Lucky returned from a hiatus, due to Happy Akhand's premature death. “Britishna Jibone Amar” was a mixed album which featured six top artists: James, Ayub Bachchu, Tapan Chowdhury, Samina Chowdhury, Hasan and Kumar Biswajit. His other hit compositions include “Ghum Ashe Na”, “Sritir Kagoj”, “Polatok Ami”, “Jodi Prithibi Take Dhori”, “Neela”, “Ghumiye Poro”, etc. Lucky Akhand's final album came out in 2000, titled “Tomar Oronne”. Bappa Mazumder, Nipu and Fahmida Nabi starred in the album alongside himself. It is estimated that Lucky Akhand had composed and given voice to more than a thousand songs throughout his illustrious career, many of which are timeless classics.
