8 hurt in CU BCL infighting
At least eight leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University unit sustained injuries during a factional clash this noon.
The clash erupted after the BCL activists loyal to CU unit President Alamgir Tapu beat up an activist loyal to its general secretary Fazle Rabbi at the university rail station around 2:30pm, police said.
Both the feuding groups exchanged brick chips, leaving at least seven BCL men, including vice president Zaman Nur, deputy sports secretary Mehedi Hasan Uzzal and assistant secretary Abu Bakar, injured.
BCL activists also beat up S M Masum Khan, deputy finance secretary of CU unit BCL, as he intercepted them, reports our CU correspondent.
They were undergoing treatment at the university medical centre.
Contacted, Inspector Akhtaruzzaman, in-charge of CU police outpost, said additional policemen were deployed on the campus to avoid further untoward incidents.
