12 gold bars seized in Ctg airport, 1 held

Customs intelligence officials detained a passenger with 12 gold bars, weighing 1.39 kilogram and worth Tk 65 lakh, hidden inside his rectum at Shah Amanat International Airport this morning.

The detainee was identified as Mohammad Belal, 37, son of Dil Mohammad adn hailing from Fatikchhari upazila in the district. He claimed to have a business in Sharjah.

Belal arrived via an Air Arabia flight around 10:00am, said Pronoy Chakma, assistant director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate. “He was moving suspiciously.”

Challenged, he pushed out four packets containing 3 bars each through his rectum, the official said. “Legal actions will be taken against the detainee.”
