Khaleda’s office raid: Fakhrul demands home minister’s resignation
Terming yesterday’s police raid at BNP chief’s Gulshan office “illegal”, the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today demanded the home minister’s resignation.
“Police have left a footmark of illegal action by conducting the raid and the home minister must step down bearing the responsibility over the raid,” Fakhrul said.
BNP organised the presser at the party’s Nayapaltan office in Dhaka protesting yesterday’s raid.
“When we (BNP) have initiated a peaceful democratic and political practice as well as presented “Vision 2030”, such an attack will spoil future of democracy in the country,” the BNP leader said.
The incident has set a bad example, which is unprecedented in the political history of the country, he further said.

Dubbing the police action as an “ominous sign” for politics, Fakhrul said, “It will remain as a tainted chapter in the history.”
Police yesterday raided BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office in Dhaka to seize “materials for carrying out anti-state and subversive activities”. They found nothing during the more than two-hour-long search.
The raid was conducted following a “mysterious” general diary (GD) filed with Gulshan Police Station on Friday. Police did not disclose the identity of the person who filed the diary.
The complainant alleged that a huge quantity of stickers and other materials were stored in Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office for carrying out anti-state and subversive activities. Police claimed to have had confidence in the content of the GD and prayed to a Dhaka court on Friday for permission to raid the office, sources in the police department said.
