15 cattle among 22 livestock burnt alive in Gabtoli fire
At least 15 cattle, four goats and three sheep were burnt alive when a devastating fire broke out at a cattle market in Gabtoli of Dhaka today.
More than 20 cattle and other livestock sustained burn injuries in the fire.
The fire originated from electric short-circuit at a shed of the cattle market around 10:00am and spread soon, Ataur Rahman, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters’ control room, said quoting witnesses.
Five units of the fire fighters put out the blaze around 11:20am, according to the fire service sources.
The fire also gutted three sheds of the cattle market.
Five cattle of Md Apu, four of Helal, three of Md Shiplu, two of Mohsin and other cattle were burnt in the incident, cattle owners told The Daily Star.
The livestock were tied up under the sheds covered by plastic tin. Locals could not come up for dousing the fire initially due to heavy heat from the fire, owners said.
