The majority of Bank Colony area in Savar has been waterlogged for five months, causing immense sufferings to hundreds of residents.
Locals alleged that poor drainage system is responsible for such a situation triggered by rainwater during this monsoon.
The situation is not getting normal as the water cannot recede, they said.
Many of the tenants and even landlords have left the area as the ground floors of their houses have remained under water, said locals.
While visiting the area recently, some people were seen walking on wooden structures set up on an inundated road to move from one place to another.
Hassan Mia, a resident of the area, said, "We are trapped by water for the last five to six months."
“There is knee-deep water in all of our rooms,” said Hasan, adding, “Every day, we remove water from the rooms by using a motor.”
Mohammad Ali, a grocer, said he is incurring a huge loss as the number of customers of the area is decreasing day by day due to such waterlogging.
The area is not liveable now, said Mohammad Ali, adding that people are suffering from different water borne diseases. He was taking medicines for dermatitis, he said.
Rezaul Haque, a fifth-grader, said he has to wear gumboots while going to school to avoid water.

Azhar Ali, another resident of the area, alleged that Bank Colony is waterlogged in this way every year with the municipal authorities turning a blind eye.
Khandakar Shah Moynul Hossen Biltu, councillor of Ward No-5 which covers the area, said a project was taken in this regard.
Savar Municipality Mayor Abdul Goni said, under the Tk 16.35 crore project, 12 more drains and seven roads will be constructed in several areas in Savar. Of them, one drain and two roads will be constructed in Bank Colony.
He hoped that the problem would be resolved after the project is implemented.
Some of the works are already going on while the rest is being delayed due to rain.
About the time to finish the project, the mayor said by May next year.
