2 cops killed in Dinajpur road crash

Two policemen were killed as a speedy goods-laden truck hit them in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur yesterday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abdul Hye Siddique, 35, and Constable Ashraful Islam, 50, of Hakimpur Police Station, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

The speedy truck hit the policemen near Charmatha area around 3:30pm while they were going towards Hakimupur Upazila Parishad riding on a motorcycle, witnesses said.

Critically injured, they were whisked off to the upazila health complex. Later, doctors referred them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), said Hamidul Alam, superintended of police (SP) in Dinajpur.

The duo succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital within one and a half hours of the accident, the SP added.
