Twin girls Tofa and Tahura, who were separated from their conjoined at waist in a marathon surgery in Dhaka recently, are likely to be released from the hospital within from seven to ten days next, says a doctor.

“Physicians cut their sewing today, 15 days after their operation was conducted successfully. They are doing well then before,” Shahnoor Islam, associate professor of paediatrics surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), told The Daily Star.

As their operation wounds are drying day by day, doctors may release them within next seven to 10 days, she hoped.

Tofa and Tahura, who are now to the post-operative room of the DMCH,  take usual food as well as breastfeed, said the girls' mother Shahida Begum, adding that they look always lively.

After a nine-hour operation on August 1, doctors at the DMCH successfully separated the 10 months old twin sisters conjoined at the waist.

A 30-member medical team of DMCH comprised of doctors from different departments including anesthesia, burn and plastic surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, urology and radiology took part in the operation.

Daughters of Shahida and Raju Mia from Gaibandha, the twins were believed to had been suffering from a medical condition called ‘Pygopagus’ in which two individuals were joined at the buttocks.
