Gonojagoron mancha spokesperson Imran ‘attacked’

Miscreants reportedly attacked Gonojagoron Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar at Shahbagh intersection of Dhaka this afternoon.

A group of youths, equipped with sticks, attacked Imran when he along with others volunteers were raising fund for the flood victims there around 5:00pm, Imran told our DU correspondent.

However, the attackers retreated when locals chased them, he said.

“The attackers were yelling at us that there is no flood in the country and alleged that we have cooked up the flood story intentionally,” Sarkar said.

Earlier, they formed a human chain under the banner of ‘Nagarik Samaj’ (civil society) in front the National Museum in Shahbagh urging the government to accelerate relief activities and rescue operations of the flood victims, our DU correspondent reports.

A complaint with Shahbagh Police Station to be lodged in this connection, he added.
