Now, Dhaka is flooding every time it rains
This monsoon season is turning to a nightmare for Dhaka city dwellers. Now, Dhaka goes down under knee-deep every time it rains and whenever it rains.
In the last few days of rain, key thoroughfares of the city like Rokeya Sarani, Bijoy Sarani, Mirpur Road, Manik Mia Avenue and Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue went down under regularly.
During rainfall last night, Rokeya Sarani, a road linking the entire Mirpur zone to southern Dhaka, went knee-deep under in just a matter of hours.
Dhaka experienced 126mm rain in the last 24 hours, Hafizur Rahman, an on-duty meteorologist from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department told The Daily Star.
Worse still, he said that more rain is expected in the coming days in overcast Dhaka. Which effectively means, more inundation and water-logging sufferings.
Weather forecast predicts of moderate rainfall and temporary gusty winds more-or-less all over Bangladesh. Some divisions might experience moderately heavy rainfall.
And, the intensity and frequency of rain might increase in the last days of August, Hafizur said.
