Switzerland today said it will contribute USD 1.25 million as emergency assistance for the Rohingya refugees and the flood affected people in Bangladesh.

The contribution will be given through the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) Humanitarian Aid, said a press release of the Switzerland embassy in Dhaka.

Out of this contribution, USD 1.04 million will be used to provide life-saving support and respond to the immediate needs of the Rohingyas who recently arrived in Bangladesh.

The priority support areas are food security, shelter, water and sanitation, the release said. The remaining USD 208,000 will be for the flood victims of Bangladesh.

This Swiss humanitarian assistance comes in response to the emergency appeal made by the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society and will be channeled through the Swiss Red Cross.
