VIPs on wrong side: Over 50 vehicles fined in Ramna
At least 51 vehicles belonging to VIPs and influential people were fined by law enforcers this afternoon for plying the wrong side of a road in Dhaka.
Police officials conducted a drive against the unruly vehicles from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, a police official seeking anonymity told The Daily Star.
During the two-hour-long drive, police fined and filed cases against the vehicles violating traffic rules, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Ramna Zone) Md Alauddin told the correspondent.
Seven vehicles were fined Tk 1200-1500 in the drive, he said.
Over 70 percent of the vehicles belong to VIPs including Social Welfare State Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, secretaries, judges, ruling party leaders, police, and media persons, said an on-duty police official.
Now-a-days, vehicles carrying government officials, VIPs, lawmakers, ruling party leaders and media persons are regularly seen plying the wrong side of the road defying traffic rules in rush hours.
