'Gunfight' with cops kills one in Kishoreganj

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Syed Nazrul Islam road in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj early today.

Deceased Sohag was accused in several cases including robbery charge, said Md Moklesur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station.

Police after arresting Sohag, 25, conducted a drive at Syed Nazrul Islam road to recover firearms around 3:00am.

Sensing the law enforcers' presence, Sohag's associates opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the “gunfight”.

At one stage, Sohag was caught in the line of fire, leaving him injured while the others managed to flee the spot.

Two policemen - ASI Habibullah and Constable Abdul Wahab - were injured during the operation.

The injured were taken to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Sohag dead while two were undergoing treatment.

Police also recovered one pipe gun, one chopper, a knife and one bullet from the spot.
