Govt official caught red-handed while taking bribe
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested a government official red-handed while taking bribe at his Agargoan office in Dhaka today.
Arrestee Shahid Ullah is an administrative officer of Bangladesh National Scientific and Technical Documentation Center (BANSDOC), source at the ACC said.
Based on complain over the hotline-106, a five-member team of the anti graft body went to the BANSDOC office around 12:30pm and arrested him while he was taking bribe, the source said.
A case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in this connection.
According to the case statement, Shahid Ullah has been working at the BANSDOC since 1988 and has been engaged in such misdeeds since then.
He reportedly claimed Tk 40,000 as bribe from Mangal Mia, a senior record keeper, Rawshan Ara, photocopy operator, Halima Begum, a gardener and Rafikul Islam, a cleaner of the BANSDOC, threatening them to cut their salaries, according to the case statement.
At one stage, they agreed to give him the money in two installments and today (Thursday) was fixed for the first installment worth Tk 20,000.
