Splash of melting iron kills 1, burns 10 at Ctg Ispat factory
One labourer died and 10 other received burn injuries as melting iron spilled on them at an Ispat Factory in Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong early today.
The deceased has been identified as Shah Alam, 32, according to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) sources.
All the victims were primarily rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, our Chittagong staff correspondent reports.
Due to critical condition, six of them were brought to DMCH around 5:45pm. On the way, Shah Alam succumbed to his injuries, Partho Shankar Paul, Residence Surgeon of DMCH burn unit, told The Daily Star.
Mrinal Kanti Das, head of the Burn and Surgery Unit of CMCH, told our local correspondent that they have sent six of the injured to DMCH as they need better treatment adding that five others were released after providing primary treatment.
“Four of the injured, who were sent to DMCH, received burn injuries ranging from 60 percent to 100 percent while another sustained 20 percent burn,” Mrinal said.
Iftekhar Hasan, officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Police Station, said the melting iron splashed on the labours waiting under the furnace to receive the iron and put them into dice.
