Highway to home: A tale of horror (video)
Eid-ul-Azha is on us and a large number of people are leaving Dhaka city to spend the holiday with their friends and families. The journey home is a joyous occasion where everyone hopes to reach their destination without any glitches.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has said that the conditions of the roads have improved and are ready for use. But the reality, unfortunately is quite different on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
The road is in dire condition and despite claims of repair they are already crumbling with many potholes as testimony. The abysmal condition of the roads makes the journey a tale of horror for homebound people.
The ride is nothing but a roller coaster ride- not of the pleasant kind but the one that churns your insides and makes you sick.
Two kilometers after Kanchpur bridge and half a kilometer within Narsingdi are the worst bits of the highway.
When will the roads be fixed? When will the passengers travel in comfort? When will the journey home be worthwhile? These questions come back every year, passengers continue to suffer and nobody really has the answer.
