Hindu woman ‘tortured’ over land dispute in Patuakhali

Rivals reportedly beat up a Hindu woman and tried to gouge out her eye at Khejurbaria village in Baufal upazila of Patuakhali district today.

The victim, Monju Rani, 23, daughter of Suron Chandra Kirtonia, was undergoing treatment at Baufal upazila health complex as she suffered injuries in her right eye, said Baufal Police Station Officer-in-Charge M Monir Hossain.

Mantara rani, mother of the victim, told that they had a longstanding dispute with one Ansar Khalifa in the village over the ownership of a piece of land.

The incident took place around 12.00pm when Monju Rani went to the land to collect firewood.

A group of people, led by Ansar Khalifa, beat Monju Rani and attempted to gouge out her right eye, reports our local correspondent quoting the victims.

The attackers also beat up her mother Mantara Rani and sister-in-law Shipra Rani (brother’s wife) as they tried to save her.

OC Monir Hossain said they will take steps after investigating the incident. No case was over the incident till filing the report this evening.
