Another accused of Malaysia expatriate murder case was killed in an alleged gunfight between his cohorts and police in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia early today.

The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, 33, son of Hasmot Ali of Sawnta village of Kumarkhali in Kushtia, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting police.

Earlier on October 13, an accused of the case Shahinur Rahman was killed in a “gunfight” with police.

A joint team of Kumarkhali police and detectives in Kushtia raided Joynabad village after receiving information that a group of unidentified criminals were holding meeting there around 2:30am, Abdul Khaleque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station said.

Cordoning off the spot, police asked the criminals to surrender. But they opened fire on police defying the call, the OC said.

“A gunfight, lasted half an hour, occurred when police fired back,” the OC said.

Anwar’s body was found on the spot after the gunfight, OC claimed.

A pistol and two bullets were recovered from the spot.

According to the OC, Anwar was a listed criminal. Three robbery and two abduction cases were filed against him. Recently, he was accused in the expatriate Rafiqul Islam murder case.

Anwar’s younger brother Sanwar Hossain told that Anwar went missing since Rafiqul’s murder in October 9. He was one of the second accused in the case.

According to police, expatriate Rafiqul’s younger brother Safiqul employed the killers to kill his brother over extra marital affairs with Rafiqul’s wife.
