Mirza Fakhrul gets bail in defamation case
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday secured bail in a defamation case filed for terming the ruling Awami League a “killer party” and its chief Sheikh Hasina a “killer” at a press conference at BNP Nayapaltan headquarters on August 24 last year.
Nur-e-Alam Siddique, vice-president of Awami Matsyajibi League, a pro-AL organisation, filed the suit against the BNP leader with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka on September 1, 2014.
Following a report submitted by Paltan police on December 18, the court issued summons against Fakhrul while another Dhaka court on January 22 issued arrest warrant against him as he did not appear before it.
Fakhrul was released on bail from prison on July 14, over six months after his arrest on January 6.
