Three dead bodies were recovered along with improvised bombs and bomb-making materials after the raid in Chapainawabganj’s Sadar upazila.

A 10-hour-long raid around the lone house situated at the middle of a vast Char, under Madhyachar village, ended around 1:00pm, our local correspondent reports.

Mufti Mahmud Khan, legal and media wing director of Rapid Action Battalion, briefed reporters in the afternoon and declared the find of three dead bodies.

“We are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased. But we believe they are active members of banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB),” he said.

Three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), seven detonators, 12 explosive gel packs, and two pistols were found in the house. Bomb disposal swept the area and defused two bombs.

Lawmen cordoned off the house since 3:00am early today. Since then the suspected militants inside blasted several bombs in phases, met with gunfire of lawmen.

Around 5:00am, when the lawmen announced calls for a peaceful surrender, a large blast put the entire house on fire, said Lt Col Mahbubul Alam, director of Rab-5.

So far, three persons have been detained for questioning from neighbouring Rajshahi’s Godagari upazila, Rab’s central spokesperson Mufti Mahmud Khan told The Daily Star.

According to the identities provided by the law enforcers, the detainees are: house owner Rashidul, his wife Nazma, and his father in-law Khorshed Alam.
