Nippon Paint organises Asia Young Designer Award 2017

The final gala round of Asia Young Designer Award's Bangladesh chapter was held recently under the theme "You for Tomorrow". Nippon Paint has launched this award competition for the students of architecture and interior design departments of different universities in Bangladesh. The idea is to nurture the future of architecture and interior designing students. Prizes were given in two categories; the Gold Award winners were given BDT 50000 for each category and the Silver Award winners were given BDT 25000 for each category. The Gold Award winners will fly to Malaysia in March to represent Bangladesh. The Gold Winner in Architecture category was Nadia Afrin Lagno from Stamford University, and from Interior Design was Ahnaf Akif Siddique from BUET

In the award ceremony prominent Architect Khadem Ali, Prof. Qazi Azizul Mowla, and Prof. Architect N. R. Khan were present as jury members. Lee Thor Meow Teng, General Manager, was present on behalf of Nippon Paint (Bangladesh) Private Limited.

ULAB holds Annual Photo Contest and Exhibition

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a photo exhibition and prize giving ceremony of its Annual Photo Contest on December 20, 2017 in Dhanmondi.

Every year, ULAB organises a photo contest to encourage its students to be actively engaged in this skill-based form of art. Over 30 photos were displayed in the exhibition from 298 photographs submitted by the students. Judges from ULAB selected 12 photos from the entries for the ULAB Calendar of 2018.

Prof. Dr. H.M. Jahirul Haque, VC of ULAB, and eminent writer Syed Manzoorul Islam, Professor, Department of English and Humanities, ULAB inaugurated the exhibition and presented certificates and gifts to the 12 finalists and winners.

Naryn State University of Kyrgyz Republic awards DIU Chairman with honorary doctorate

Decided by the University Academic Council and subsequent approval by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, Naryn State University has awarded a Diploma and Honorary Doctorate degree to Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil International University (DIU) and Daffodil Family for his contribution to education in the field of entrepreneurship. Prof. DK Omuralieva, the President, conferred this degree upon Khan at the university campus in Naryn, Kyrgyz Republic in a grand ceremony in front of Senate members of the Naryn State University.

With a view to making a thriving future generation, Khan has initiated his mission to create 500+ new entrepreneurs in the country through the Department of Entrepreneurship of DIU. He has been a visiting professor at foreign universities, including Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and Kyrgyz Republic.

On behalf of the university, Prof. Dr. Yousuf M Islam, VC, DIU, accorded a grand reception to Md. Sabur Khan in honour of receiving honorary doctorate on December 26, 2017. 

 

BUBT arranges seminar on "Prospects of Denim Sector in Bangladesh"

Department of Textile Engineering of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organised a seminar on "Prospects of Denim Sector in Bangladesh" on December 31, 2017 at the Hall Room of the University Permanent Campus, Mirpur, Dhaka. A F M Sarwar Kamal, Chairman, BUBT Trust was the chief guest while Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC, BUBT, presided over the seminar. The keynote speaker was Mohammad Jamal Abdun Naser, Director, Shasha Denims Ltd. Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-VC, BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), Prof. Md. Enayet Hossain Miah Treasurer, BUBT, and Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor, BUBT were present as special guests. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Professor and Chairman, Department of Textile Engineering, BUBT and Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, BUBT.

Guests inaugurated and visited the Room of Textile Innovative Works created by the students under Merchandising Unit of Department of Textile Engineering, BUBT. The contest winners and the winners of the "Textile Talent Search 2017" were awarded.

Deans of various faculties, Registrar of BUBT, Controller of Examinations, Director, CGO, Chairmen of all Departments, Faculty members, Officials and students of Department of Textile Engineering of BUBT were present in the programme.

 

AIUB holds Business Process Innovation (BPI) Showcase

To enrich the performance of students and boost up theoretical knowledge, the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), AIUB, in association with Service Marketing and Social Media & Digital Marketing teams organised Business Process Innovation (BPI) Showcase in which the students of both courses participated.

Since the event was anchored with the theme "Customer Services through Digital Media", a total of 70 students divided into 13 groups endeavoured to find the current service gaps and plans for providing better service along with the digitalisation process in their real life in order to become future leaders. Finally, 3 groups out of 13 nominated by the panel members were awarded with crests and certificates.

 

BRACU hosts Global Model United Nations 2017

The opening ceremony of BRAC University Global Model United Nations (BUGMUN) took place in Dhaka's Army Golf Garden on December 27, 2017.

Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb, PhD, VC of BRACU was present as the chief guest. Other guests included Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam and Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, both professors of BRACU Business School. Md. Mustafizur Rahman, the Deputy Managing Director of Bashundhara Group as well as AM Shakil Faizullah, Communications Manager under the Communication, Advocacy and Partnership Section of UNICEF Children's Fund also graced the momentous occasion as special guests.

The 5-day conference was modelled after the UN; BUGMUN is an educational simulation that brings together students as delegates, from various countries in one place to discuss key global issues for possible solutions. BUGMUN is taking place for the 3rd time this year, from December 27-31, 2017, with the sole purpose of engaging the youth in matters of the world, while building their leadership, communication, networking and diplomatic abilities. The conference was filled with engaging committee sessions and social events allowing delegates to network as well as relax in BRACU's Residential Campus in Savar which served as the spectacular venue for BUGMUN 2017.

BUGMUN 2017 hosted around 400 delegates, consisting of 12 committees, with agendas based on the theme,"Conforming to Egalitarianism: Provision for Consolidated Global Prosperity".
