Fakhrul’s rally foiled in Thakurgaon
The pre-scheduled rallies of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in Thakurgaon were foiled as the local administration imposed ban on public gathering in the area today.
Fakhrul was scheduled to join rallies at five places in Thakurgaon sadar upazila this noon, but the local authorities imposed moratorium on holding any kind of public gathering by using Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
The authorities came up with the decision as Awami Swechchhasebak League, the voluntary wing of the Awami League, also announced to hold rallies in the areas- Bhelarhat, Patiadangi, Dholarhat Bazar, Ramnathhat and Ruhea Bazar intersection.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Thakurgaon Sadar Aslam Mollah told The Daily Star that they have imposed the Section 144 to avert any untoward incident as the two rival political parties announced the programme of public gathering in the same areas.
Protesting the ban, Toimur Rahman, president of the district unit of BNP in a press conference in district party office, blamed the local administration for foiling the programmes by imposing the section 144.
