Nakhalpara militant hideout raid
Rapid Action Battalion sources on Sunday, January 14, 2018, say a case is filed over Friday’s raid on a militant hideout at West Nakhalpara in Dhaka. In the Star photo taken on January 12, a vehicle carrying Rab members come out of the area.

One of the three suspected militants killed in Nakhalpara operation on Friday is Mezba Uddin, a resident of Comilla.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) confirmed the identity as his fingerprints were matched with notational identity database.

An SMS floated to media, Rab said that Mezba, son of Enamul Huq and Tahmina Akhtar, fingerprint matched with one of the national identity (NID) card.

The militants holed up in a flat near the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka during the Rab operation.

On January 12, Rab suspected that one militant had faked his identity as the elite force found copies of two different national ID cards with his photographs. In one ID, his name was mentioned as Jahid from Comilla and in the other as Sajib from Brahmanbaria.

Quoting the flat's caretaker Rubel, Rab officials on the same day said that one of the militants rented a room of the flat on December 28 for Tk 5,500 a month. He identified himself as Jahid, a worker at a ceramic factory in Tejgaon Industrial Area.

The three had been staying in a flat of a six-storey building, “Ruby Villa”, several hundred yards from the PMO.

Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed on the day of the operation said the militants tried to blow up the flat by exploding a grenade on a gas burner.

Case filed over Nakhalpara raid

Meanwhile, a case was filed over Friday’s raid on a militant hideout at West Nakhalpara in Dhaka, reports UNB.

Sources at the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) headquarters said the case was lodged with Tejgaon Police Station under Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 on Saturday.

On Friday, members of the elite force cordoned off the militant hideout located at 13/1 ‘Rubi Vila’, a six-storey building.

At one stage, the militants opened fire and hurled a grenade targeting the Rab personnel, said Mufti Mahmud Khan, Director (Legal and media wing) of Rab, adding that the Rab men also fired back in retaliation.

During the exchange of gunshots, three militants were killed and two Rab men sustained injuries.
