BNP misleads nation over election-time govt: Quader
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today charged BNP with misleading the nation over the election-time government as the party is plagued with confusion failing to come up with a clear framework on the type of the government under which the polls would be held.
The BNP has failed to clear before the nation about the election-time government making contradictory and confusing statements on the issue, he noted, categorically saying election will be held in line with the constitution.
"BNP is misleading the nation over the election-time government. They are confused about the polls-time government," said Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister.
The minister said BNP could not yet give any outline about the election-time government as the party is beset with confusions and the people are unclear about their stance on the polls-time government.
He was addressing a ceremony of winter-cloth distribution among the cold-hit people at Bangabandhu Avenue here. Awami League (AL) Sub-Committee on Industry and Commerce Affairs organised the function marking the 4th anniversary of the present government.
Sub-Committee Chairman Qazi Akram Uddin chaired the function while AL Commerce and Industries Secretary Md Abdus Sattar, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afjal Hossain, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Dhaka City South unit of AL President Abul Hasnat and General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, among others, were present on the occasion.
Quader said the BNP sometimes demanded supportive government during election, shifting itself away from it again demanding caretaker government or neutral and non-party government.
The AL general secretary said the BNP has no clear political outlook of its own. "We clearly said that we could not go beyond the constitution. The election will be held in a similar way other parliamentary democratic countries do it," he said.
Quader said it would not yield any positive things for the people by eliciting new formulas on holding the election. Election will be held in line with the constitution and the election-time government will discharge its duties sincerely, he added.
The minister said the government will extend its necessary cooperation to the Election Commission in holding the next general election as like as it did in the elections to Comilla, Narayanganj and Rampur city corporations.
Under the initiative of AL sub-committee on industry and commerce, around 6,000 blankets would be distributed among the cold-hit people. Some 2,000 blankets were distributed today while the rest would be given in two more phases.
