Young Tigers face India in quarterfinal
Bangladesh youths will be up against their Indian counterparts in the ICC Under-19 World Cup quarterfinals at the Queenstown Events Centre on January 26. The game will be telecast live from 3.30pm Bangladesh time.
The young Tigers finished second from Group C after England romped to a massive 282-run win against Canada in their final group league game today. England will face their perennial rivals Australia, who finished second from Group B that India topped, in the other quarterfinal January 23.
The Bangladesh youth team have won their first two games against Namibia and Canada, the two associate member-nations of the ICC, convincingly but suffered a big defeat against England.
The India game in an unfamiliar New Zealand conditions will be a big test for the young Tigers that lacks depth in the batting and do not have quality pace bowlers. Although Bangladesh finished third in the last edition on their home ground, it would be tough for them to make it to the last four this time around.
Interestingly, the West Indies team, who won the title in Bangladesh in 2014 by beating India in the final, have failed to cross the group stage this time around.
Pakistan will take on South Africa in the third quarterfinal against South Africa while hosts New Zealand face an impressive Afghanistan side in the fourth quarterfinal on January 25.
