‘EC to take steps for holding presidential polls’
The Election Commission will take necessary steps for holding the presidential elections at the due time according to the constitution, Law Minister Anisul Huq said today.
The policymakers of Awami League will decide who will be the candidate for the post of president, the minister said while talking to reporters at the Judicial Administration Training Institute as chief guest in Dhaka.

He was talking to journalists attending a training programme for the lower court judges at the Judicial Administration Training Institute as chief guest in Dhaka.
The Jatiya Sangsad is likely to elect the next president of Bangladesh on February 19 as the tenure of President Abdul Hamid, who took office on April 24, 2013, will expire on April 23 this year.
According to article 123 of the constitution, presidential election should be held between 90 and 60 days before the five-year term of the president expires.
The next president will be elected for a five-year term, and the tenure of the president will be until the last year of the next government.
According to the sources in the ruling party, President Hamid is likely to be re-elected for a second term as the Awami League is set to nominate him as its candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
