‘BSF’ kills Bangladeshi on Lalmonirhat border
A Bangladeshi cattle trader was tortured to death allegedly by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Burimari border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat early today, locals said.
The deceased was identified as Manjurul Alam, 22, son of Asadul Islam at Fakiredanga village in the upazila, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports quoting police.
Quoting cattle traders in the border area, Patgram Police Station officer-in-charge Sajjad Hossain told the Daily Star that some BSF members of Changrabandha camp in India’s Cooch Behar district caught Manjurul after he entered Indian territory illegally for bringing cattle.
After BSF men left Manjurul on no-man’s land, local people rescued him but he died on the way to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, said the OC.
Nayek Subedar Wahedul Islam, camp commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Burimari, told the correspondent that they are yet to be confirmed whether Manjurul was killed in BSF torture.
“We sent message to BSF asking about the incident this morning, and in reply, BSF said they were not aware about the incident,” he said.
The camp commander said they are trying to find out the reason behind the death.
