Shoe procession against Khaleda in Narsingdi
Ruling Awami League activists allegedly brought out a procession with shoes in their hands as a symbol of their protest against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Narsingdi today.
The incident took place when Khaleda was passing through Narsingdi on her way to Sylhet, where she will be offering prayers at Hazrat Shahjalal’s shrine, on Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
Khairul Kabir Khokon, Narsingdi district unit president of BNP, claimed that it was the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Juba League – affiliates of Awami League – who brought out the shoe march, our local correspondent reports.
On the other hand, Tofazzal Hossen Master, general secretary of the district BNP, alleged that police detained 13 leaders and activists of their party in the district this morning.
They were held as BNP leaders and activists gathered to welcome Khaleda on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway when she was passing by, he added.
