‘Rape’ at Banani guesthouse

A year into the Banani rape incident, another woman was allegedly gang-raped during a birthday party at a guesthouse in the same area on Saturday night.

After the victim filed a case against two youths -- Rajib Ahmed and his friend Rubel Hossain Joy – yesterday with Banani Police Station, police arrested the duo, Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) investigation of the police station, told The Daily Star.

The arrestees were produced before a Dhaka court with seeking a five-day remand prayer, police said.

Meanwhile, the victim was taken to One-stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital today where her medical tests were conducted, OCC’s Coordinator confirmed to The Daily Star.

According to the first information report, Rajib was acquainted with the woman over phone and invited her to the guesthouse on road No. 15 of Banani saying it was his birthday.

“The two then confined her at the guesthouse and raped her,” the OC said quoting the victim.

In March last year, two university girls were allegedly raped at Raintree Hotel in Banani.
