BNP submits memorandum to DC office
BNP leaders and activists today submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka district Mohammad Salah Uddin today demanding release of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who landed in jail following a verdict in a graft case.
Khaleda’s adviser barrister Ziaur Rahman, BNP president of Dhaka district unit Dewan Mohammad Salahuddin and numbers of party leaders and activists of Dhaka unit went to the DC office around noon and submitted the memorandum.
The BNP leaders and activists also held a procession after coming out of the DC office.
As per the scheduled programme, the leaders and activists across the country will submit memorandums to the DCs of their respective districts demanding the same.
On February 8, Khaleda was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a special court in Dhaka. She was sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the case.
Soon after her conviction, the BNP announced countrywide demonstrations on February 9 and 10.
Yesterday, BNP collected signatures from people as part of its ongoing protest programme demanding Khaleda’s release.
As part of the protest programme, the BNP earlier observed a token hunger strike, formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka and staged a sit-in before the party's Nayapaltan central office.
The party will hold a rally in the capital on February 22 on the same ground.
