Ctg ex-MP Yousuf dies
Former Member of Parliament from Chittagong’s Rangunia constituency Md Yousuf passed away this morning. He was 69.
He breathed his last at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka around 8:00 am, his younger brother Md Sekandar told our Chittagong correspondent.
Yousuf, who had been suffering from different diseases since 2001, was admitted to the CMH one and a half month ago, Sekandar said.
His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad today. He will be buried in his native village Morium Nagar of Rangunia upazila tomorrow.
The former lawmaker, who led a very simple life, had been lying without treatment for many years due to a shortage of money and left unattended as he was unmarried.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on January 7 this year took responsibility of Yousuf’s treatment as she came to know about his health condition from several newspaper reports.
Defeating the then National Democratic Party candidate Giash Uddin Quader Chowdhury in 1991, Yousuf was elected as a lawmaker from Rangunia (Chittagong-7) from the Communist Party of Bangladesh. He later joined Awami League.
