HC stays NBR step on freezing Robi’s bank account
The High Court today stayed the National Board of Revenue’s decision of freezing the bank accounts of Robi Axiata Ltd.
NBR yesterday froze the bank accounts of Robi, the country's second largest mobile operator, on allegations of dodging of Tk 18.72 crore in value-added tax and supplementary duty.
The HC bench of Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order following a writ petition filed by Robi Axiata Ltd.
The court also asked the NBR authorities why its step of freezing the bank accounts would not be declared illegal and asked them to explain with two weeks, said Barrister Tanjib-ul Alam, a lawyer for Robi Axiata Ltd.
