Mohammedan-Dolshewar ends in a tie, Abahani taste first defeat
The Dhaka Premier League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, played at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah came to an exciting conclusion as neither side managed to clinch the game, resulting in a tie.
Batting first, Mohammedan put on 286 on the board courtesy of half centuries from Shamsur Rahman, Raqibul Hasan and Bipul Sharma before thery were bowled out for 286 in the penultimate delivery of the 50th over.
Raqibul struck a stormy 72 off 60 deliveries with one four and five sixes. He was involved in a fifth-wicket 108-run partnership with Shamsur Rahman, who scored a team-high 75 from 93 deliveries.
Doleshwar lost a few wickets at the start but their chase was highlighted by a brilliant ton from opener Liton Das, who struck a 122-ball 129 with eight fours and two sixes. He kept the chase going and piled up a 124-run fourth-wicket partnership with Farhad Hossain, who scored a run-a ball 52. Mohammedan lost both batsmen in the 43rd over with the team needing a further 56 runs from seven overs. The game went down to the wire with six runs needed of six deliveries with Mohammad Azim the bowler.
He bagged two wickets with the first two deliveries of the over and conceded 5 runs as the match was tied.
At Savar, Abahani Limited stumbled to their first defeat in the DPL as they fell to Prime Bank by 9 runs.
Prime Bank were restricted to 246 runs all-out as Mashrafe Bin Mortaza bagged four wickets for 41 runs. However, in their chase of 247, Abahani lost three top order batsmen inside six overs. A fourth-wicket 127-run partnership between Saif Hassan and Nasir Hossain got them back into the game. Following the wickets of both batsmen, Prime Bank pulled things back and eventually the task got too big for Abahani.
In the other match of the DPL, Sheikh Jamal defeated Gazi Group cricketers by 95 runs as Shykat Ali struck 115, before he was retired hurt. Sheikh Jamal posted 265 on the board before they bowled Gazi Group for 170 runs in 42.4 overs.
