Shakib ruled out of SL Tri-series
Bangladesh Cricket Board has named Liton Das as replacement of Shakib Al Hasan for the Sri Lanka tri-series.
Bangladesh will leave Dhaka tomorrow to take part in Nidahas Trophy, in which Shakib was earlier named captain of the Tigers.
But the board has to make the forced replacement after doctors advised the premier Bangladesh all-rounder to continue with the physiotherapy treatment to his injured finger for at least one more week. He sustained the injury in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka at home earlier this year.
Liton, the wicketkeeper batsman, was not part of Bangladesh's two-match T20I series against Sri Lanka that the home side lost 2-0 last month. However, he scored heavily in the domestic league.
Mahmudhllah Riyad, who led the Tigers in the absence of Shakib during the home Test and T20I series, will lead the team in Sri Lanka.
"Bangladesh Twenty20 captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the Nidahas Trophy Tri-Nation competition in Sri Lanka as he is still nursing an injury to his left hand sustained in the final of the ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka in January this year. In Shakib's absence, Mahmudullah will lead the side in the T20 tournament which also features India and the hosts Sri Lanka. Shakib has been replaced in the squad by batsman Litton Kumer Das," read a BCB statement issued today.
