Case filed over attack on Zafar Iqbal
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) authorities today filed a case in connection with the attack on renowned writer Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal.
The university registrar, Isfaqul Hossain, filed the case with Jalalabad Police Station today, reports our local correspondent quoting Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Golam Kibria.
Meanwhile, a team of Rapid Action Battalion-9 detained Abul Kaher, the paternal uncle of suspect Foyzur Rahman, along with two others in connection with the attack, said Rab-9 Commanding Officer Ali Haider Azad at a press briefing this afternoon.
Earlier, police detained Foyzur’s maternal uncle Fozlur Rahman from his house in Dirai upazila of Sunamganj last night.

Dr Iqbal, a faculty member of Computer Science and Engineering department at SUST, came under attack yesterday afternoon when he was attending a programme on the SUST campus.
Zafar Iqbal was flown to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka by an air-ambulance last night and is now doing well and out of danger, a doctor at the hospital said.
A five-member medical board has been formed to oversee his treatment process.
