Attack on Zafar Iqbal the worst chapter of govt: BNP
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the attack on the renowned writer Muhammed Zafar Iqbal is an outcome of the ongoing misdeeds of the government and it will remain as its worst chapter.
"The people, who knifed Zafar Iqbal, are the enemy of the society. The attack will remain as the worst chapter of the government," Fakhrul came up with the remarks as his party's reaction over the attack.
Fakhrul also expressed his party's strong condemnation and protested the attack launched on the widely respected teacher by student irrespective of age and place.
The people of different professions in the country like artist, novelist, scientist, doctor, teacher, student, journalist and engineer are passing through a tough time amid the misdeeds of the government, he said.
"It is tough to maintain people's peace and stability amid the prevailing misdeeds," the BNP leader said adding that the terrorists have become desperate due to the culture of impunity.
Fakhrul termed the attack as a part of a deep-rooted conspiracy and said it will remain as the worst chapter of the government.
Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal of Sylhet Shahjalal University of Science and Technology came under a knife attack yesterday.
He was initially treated at MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital in Sylhet where he had to be administered 27 stitches and was given two bags of blood.
Later, he was flown to the capital by an air ambulance on the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He reached the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka around midnight.
He is now doing well and is out of danger, a doctor in CMH said today.
