Gunfight: 2 ‘robbers’ killed in Gazipur, Rangpur
Two suspected robbers were killed in separate “gunfights” in Gazipur and Rangpur districts this morning.
In Rangpur, a suspected robber was killed and another was hurt in what police claimed a gunfight in the early hours today.
Identity of the deceased could not be known yet, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting Abdul Aziz, Inspector (Investigation) of Rangpur Sadar Police Station.
Police raided near Keramatia Government School at Munsipara area under Rangpur city in the early hours after learning that a gang of robbers were preparing for a heist there.
They attacked with sharp weapons when the lawmen arrived there. Police fired gunshots leaving one person dead and another hurt.
In Gazipur, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Patka in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur early today, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rab Hawladar, 35, hailing from Goshairhat upazila in Shariatpur district.
Acting on secret information that a group of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive around 3:00am, said Joynal Abedin, duty officer of Sreepur Police Station.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire to police, prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight. At one stage of gunfight, Abdur Rab caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries.
Later, he was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Three policemen were also injured in the incident. The deceased was wanted in 15 cases, said police.
