Zafar Iqbal’s attacker on 10-day remand
A Sylhet court today placed Foyzur Rahman on a10-day remand in a case filed over the knife attack on noted author Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal.
Foyzur, aged about 25, was caught red-handed after he stabbed Prof Iqbal on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus on March 3.
Judge of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 Haridas Thakur passed the order when police produced Foyzur before the court around 1:15pm, our local correspondent reports quoting Shafiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station.
Dr Iqbal, a faculty member of Computer Science and Engineering department at SUST, came under the attack when he was attending a programme on the SUST campus.
Zafar Iqbal was flown to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka by an air-ambulance after the attack. He is now well and shifted to cabin from the intensive care unit (ICU) at the hospital.
In primary interrogation, Foyzur confessed that he believes in militancy, Rab sources said.
