7 JMB men get death for Rangpur Khadem murder
A Rangpur court today sentenced seven members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to death for killing Khadem Rahmat Ali in Kaunia upazila of the district in 2015.
The Special Judge’s Court of Noresh Chandra Sarker acquitted six other accused of the charges, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting Public Prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmik.
The death convicts -- Masud Rana, Bijoy, Liton Mia, Ihsak Ali, Chandu Mia, Shakhwat Hossain and Sarwar Hossain -- were fined Tk 20,000 each.
The acquitted persons are: Shahat Hossain alias Ratan, Toufiqul Islam, Abu Sayeed, Razib, Mamun Mastar and Nazibul Islam.
A caretaker of a shrine, Rahmat Ali, 55, of Bade Moskur village, was hacked to death in Choita intersection area of Kaunia upazila on November 10, 2015.
