Comfy in cotton

From the early morning musical soiree at Botomul, to the Mangal Shobhajatra procession and all the other festivals and fairs that will be happening all across the capital, the day, and perhaps even the evenings, there will be tons to do.

That naturally means lots of exposure to the outside environment. While there is plenty to be excited about with Baishakh, one thing is not; the summer heat!

Summer in Bangladesh has gotten hotter over the years, and if the current temperature is of any indication, this Baishakh is set to be one hot and humid affair. Considering this is the Bengali New Year, you cannot exactly go out wearing trousers or shorts! You need to be dressed for the occasion; the traditional panjabis and saris in festive colours.

However, when choosing your perfect attire, put consideration for the material as a top priority. Aside from the fear of non-breathable fabrics causing unbearable discomfort in this humid temperature, there is also the possibility of body odour, something you cannot cure with just deodorants or perfumes.

In this heat, your best bet would be to go for cotton or cotton based materials. This natural fibre allows air to circulate and move freely through the fabric, which makes heat more bearable. Cotton is also very soft, and lightweight. It comes in countless styles and colours, meaning you can find a cotton garment to fit pretty much any need.

Cotton gets pretty wrinkled, but a cotton polyester blend will keep you from having to iron. Now that you know, dress well, stay hydrated and go nuts with the Baishakh celebration.
