“Not easy to perform like this in twilight of one’s career”
Bangladesh's star batsman is impressed with Mashrafe Bin Mortaza's exploits in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) this season and suggests that it is not easy to perform like this without having a serious attitude towards domestic cricket.
Mashrafe has shown staggering form this season in the domestic circuit as his team Abahani Limited are now just one win away from claiming the title. Mashrafe bagged 38 wickets in 15 matches, a DPL record since the tournament gained List A status. The paceman scalped his 38 wickets at a strike rate 19.3 and an average of 14.21. He also achieved the unique feat of taking four wickets in four consecutive deliveries against Agrani Bank and finished with bowling figures of six for 44 in that game.
Tamim suggested that the performances emphasise how much importance Mashrafe places on domestic cricket.
"He is at the twilight of his career. At this stage it is not easy to perform like this. This proves how much importance he places on domestic league. If he had given five of ten percent less, he would not have achieved the remarkable feat," Tamim said of Mashrafe achievement of becoming DPL's top wicket taker for a single season.
"It is an excellent example for those who admire him or want to become a bowler for Bangladesh team," Tamim said.
Tamim has been suffering from a few minor injuries and he bruised that injury further during the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He then went to Sri Lanka to play the Nidahas Trophy before he returned for one match in the PSL.
Tamim gave updates on his injury and said: Today is the fourth day of rehabilitation. There is some work every day, either treatment or rehabilitation. If I can stay well for the whole period then injured areas will recover and get stronger. This period is important as if I recover well then there will be no problems in the future.
