Army should be deployed in next general elections: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda today said army should be deployed during the next general elections but he strongly opposed its need for any local government elections.

“It (army deployment) does not depend on me. The election commission will take the decision on the matter,” he came up with the comment at a roundtable programme at the auditorium of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (Cirdap) in the capital today.

The roundtable was on “Introducing Overseas Voting in Bangladesh: Issues and Challenges”.

On the voting of Bangladeshi nationals who are overseas, he said, “There are different challenges to ensure voting of Bangladesh national living abroad”.
