RMG worker 'gang-raped' in running bus, 5 held
Police arrested five people, including three staff of a bus, for their alleged involvement in a gang-rape of a female garment worker in a running bus on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Dhamrai on the outskirts of Dhaka last night.
The arrestees are, Babu Mollik, 24, Abdul Aziz,25, Boloram, 20, Shohel Rana, 20, and Mokbul Hossen, 40. All are transport workers, Rezaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police station, told our Savar correspondent.
After completing duty from her workplace at Shrempur area, the garment worker, aged around 24, was returning to her Islampur residence boarding a Jatrisheba Paribahan bus around 10:00pm, the police official said quoting the victim.
She was the only passenger in the bus that had three staff and two of their co-workers from another bus on board.
As she boarded the bus; the transport workers locked the bus gate and windows. At one stage they tied her hand and mouth. Babu Mollik and Abdul Aziz raped her and other three were waiting for their turn, the OC said.
After hearing the scream of the victim, a patrol team of police chased the bus, recovered the victim and arrested five people from the bus around 12:00am, police said.
The victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical tests, the OC said adding that a case has been filed in this regard.
