‘How much money did you pay the referee?’
Chiellini: "Pagando ganáis las Champions". pic.twitter.com/LHMDXGAeaG Cruyffista (@CruyffistaSky) April 11, 2018 Real Madrid were awarded a late penalty that decided the fate of the Real-Juve tie after the teams were locked 3-3 on aggregate with seconds left till stoppage time. Juventus overturned a 3-0 first-leg deficit with three goals in 61 minutes and the tie was heading towards extra-time when referee Michael Oliver awarded Real Madrid a controversial penalty. After the penalty was awarded, Juventus centre back was incensed and insinuated that Madrid paid the referee by waving imaginary money towards the Real players. Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was sent off after a spat with the referee following the penalty decision and Cristiano Ronaldo slotted home from the spot against replacement Wojciech Szczesny. Buffon himself was scathing in his criticism of the referee. Chillini said that it was the biggest robbery that he had faced in his life but suggested that it is not surprising since Real are always favoured by the referees. He recalled last season’s controversial Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich tie. Real Madrid ran out 4-2 winners in extra time as Cristiano Ronaldo struck a hattrick. There however was widespread criticism of the refereeing standards as Ronaldo was offside for both his second and third goal. "It's the biggest robbery I've suffered in my career," Chiellini told Italian television afterwards. "It is obvious that Real Madrid always benefit in the Champions League and that it never goes the other way. Bayern Munich still remember what happened here last year." For Chiellini, the decision [to award a penalty] was laughable but the centre-back lauded his team’s effort. "You could tell at the time it wasn't a penalty, but seeing the footage back it's just laughable. We must remember that we beat Real Madrid 3-0 on their own turf and only a crazy person would've believed that going in. "We could've scored five or six goals, so we ought to be proud. We want to win the seventh Scudetto."
