Bus falls off bridge killing 21 in Madhya Pradesh
At least 21 people were killed and several others wounded when a mini truck carrying them to a marriage function veered off a bridge and fell into a river in Sidhi district of central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh late on Tuesday night.
The accident occurred at around 10:30pm when the vehicle fell 60-70 feet down on the dry part of the river after it hit the retaining wall of a bridge, our New Delhi correspondent reports.
"The death toll in the mishap has gone up to 21. So far, we have recovered bodies of 21 men, including three members of a band party. The mishap has left nearly as many injured," Rewa division's Inspector General Umesh Joga said.
The marriage party belonged to a Muslim family of Devsar town area in Singrauli district, he said.
