Khaleda files bail petitions in 2 cases, order on May 17
Two separate courts in Dhaka will pass order on the bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on May 17 in connection with two separate cases.
The cases were filed against her on charges of celebrating “fake birthday” and “undermining the country's map and national flag”.
The two courts fixed May 17 for passing orders on the petitions when Khaleda’s lawyer Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukdar moved the petitions before the courts.
Gazi Zahirul Islam, former joint general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists, on August 30, 2016 filed one of the cases against Khaleda for allegedly celebrating fake birthday on August 15 each year.
The nation observes that day as National Mourning Day, marking the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members in 1975.
The another case was filed on November 3, 2016 by President of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad AB Siddique against Khaleda and her late husband and former president Ziaur Rahman for allegedly undermining the country's map and national flag.
