Tabith Awal quizzed over suspicious bank dealings
BNP’s executive committee member and Dhaka North City Corporation mayor candidate Tabith Awal has been quizzed for “suspicious transactions” in his bank accounts.
The young leader of BNP appeared at Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) Segunbagicha headquarters in answer to a summons around 10:00am this morning.
ACC's deputy director Shamsul Alam quizzed him for nearly four hours, according to what the anti-graft watchdog’s Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told The Daily Star.
The quizzing was completed around 1:40pm.
Tabith, who denied to comment over the allegations, said: “It is all a ploy to distract BNP from the case of Khaleda Zia. I hope our leader Khaleda Zia will be freed soon.”
Currently, the by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation, following the death of its previous mayor Annisul Huq, is currently hanging until disposal of some High Court rules barring it.
Tabith also ran for the mayor position of Dhaka north in the last city corporation elections.
